Master Owner Identity Graph
How datawiser connects owners, filers, securities and issuers across different SEC ownership disclosures while preserving the meaning of each source.
1. Overview
The same person or organisation can appear under different names, filing roles and issuer-specific records. A filing manager may also report through an umbrella, an individual may hold securities through several entities, and one issuer may have multiple listed share classes. Reading each filing in isolation makes those connections difficult to follow.
The Master Owner Identity Graph provides a common identity layer over those records. It allows a user to move from an owner to its reported positions, from a security to its holders and issuer, and from one disclosure family to related evidence about the same resolved owner. It is an identity and navigation system - not a claim that every connected entity is legally controlled by, affiliated with, or economically additive to another.
2. Data sources
The graph is assembled from public ownership disclosures and issuer reference data. The principal source families are:
- Form 13F filings for institutional investment-manager positions, reporting managers and included managers.
- Schedule 13D and 13G filings for significant beneficial ownership and the reporting persons connected to a filing.
- Forms 3, 4 and 5 for insider ownership states and reported changes.
- Proxy statements, including DEF 14A disclosures, for directors, officers and reported beneficial owners.
- Issuer and security reference data for companies, exact securities, share classes, tickers and selected external identifiers.
Each filing family retains its own meaning. Proxy, Schedule 13D/G and insider evidence is not added to Form 13F holdings, and option exposure is kept separate from common-equity positions.
3. How the records are connected
At a high level, datawiser standardises source identifiers and names, resolves the exact issuer and security referenced by a filing, and associates filing-specific owner records with a persistent Master Owner. Resolution uses a combination of regulatory identifiers, source relationships and reviewed identity evidence. Ambiguous cases are not forced into a match.
Once identities are resolved, typed relationships connect owners, securities, companies and reporting groups. The relationship type is important: a holding carries economic facts, while director, other notable-holder, reporting-manager, shared-filer and sibling-security relationships provide context and navigation only.

The detailed scoring, reconciliation rules and review thresholds are part of datawiser's internal methodology. The public graph exposes the useful resolved paths without publishing those implementation controls or internal source keys.
4. Why a Master Owner graph is useful
- Find the same owner across different issuers and filing types.
- Move from a filer's portfolio to a security and its other holders.
- Understand reporting-manager and included-manager relationships without double-counting positions.
- Connect directors and beneficial owners to other published ownership paths where reliable evidence exists.
- Keep exact securities and share classes distinct while linking them to the same issuer.
- Provide a traceable foundation for ownership research, portfolio-overlap analysis and source comparison.
5. What the free website includes
The free ownership website is designed as a current-state research tool. It currently provides:
- Current published Form 13F positions and filing-manager paths.
- “Other filings” evidence - proxy statements, Forms 3/4/5 and Schedule 13D/G - for companies in the S&P 1500 coverage universe.
- Security, issuer, related-share-class and selected reference-data paths.
- Current summaries and, where available, change from the immediately preceding Form 13F report.
Only the most recent eligible filing state is published on the free site. Earlier Form 13F data may be used to calculate the displayed period-on-period change, but the free service is not a full filing history or point-in-time archive.
6. The full data product
The commercial product is intended for users who need to reconstruct, audit or integrate the graph rather than only browse its latest state. It provides:
- Full filing and ownership history rather than latest-state records only.
- Point-in-time graph traversal and source-level provenance.
- Immutable identifiers for durable tracing across owners, filings, securities and graph relationships.
- External identifiers such as CIK, LEI and other available regulatory or security identifiers.
- Broader coverage, with the US Total Market planned as the next major universe expansion.
- Data delivery suitable for systematic research, monitoring and internal applications.
Interpreting the graph
A graph connection describes the labelled relationship supported by the source evidence. Shared holdings do not establish affiliation; reporting relationships do not necessarily establish legal control; and positions from different filing families should not be summed unless the product explicitly identifies them as economic holdings.
